Libreoffice 3.4.1 Released – For Home Use Only
The new LibreOffice 3.4.1 has been released by the document foundation, creators of LibreOffice. LibreOffice is an open source office suite that contains its own set of programs all for different office purposes. The programs are open source and can be modified, the source code is provided by the developers. And As well, it is free to be redistributed. It works on most platforms and is compatible with most other office suites including Microsoft Office. The root of its name suggests it being a free software as Libre means “free” in Spanish.
LibreOffice is still not perfect for use in large enterprises. But, thankfully, can be used for most other types of use. The programs included in the suite are LibreOffice Writer, LibreOffice Draw, LibreOffice Calc, LibreOffice Base, LibreOffice Math and LibreOffice Impress. Writer is the word processor from the suite and supports most types of file format. Draw is the Vector graphics editor and used for drawing diagrams, it has a few of the mixed features of Microsoft Office Visio and Publisher. Calc is the spreadsheet creation program. Impress is presentation program like PowerPoint of Microsoft. Base is the database management program, the LibreOffice equivalent of Microsoft Access. Math is an application designed for creating mathematical formulae; these formulae can be used in Writer and Calc.
The LibreOffice was developed by the same developers from OpenOffice, developers switched from OpenOffice to LibreOffice when LibreOffice came out in September 2010.
Two versions of LibreOffice are now commonly used. First is the LibreOffice 3.3.3 which is okay to be used in large enterprises. And there is this one, version 3.4.1 which is still developmental. Users of the version 3.3.3 are requested to not upgrade to any 3.4 versions until the release of 3.4.2.
The LibreOffice 3.4.1 has many changes from 3.3.x versions but is the same as other 3.4.x versions, hopefully, features are supposed to be added on 3.4.2.
The LibreOffice 3.4.1 is available for Mac, Linux and Windows operating systems.
