Facebook – Most Sought Online Site of Americans

Of late have you thought of the reason for spending so much time online by your friend or co-worker? The Nielsen Company has the answer to this question as it has an idea of what these people are up to.

Nielson Online in its report stated that people are spending more time on social networking site Facebook as compared to any other site on internet. The study shows that during June about 87.25 million U.S. users have visited Facebook from work and home and on an average each spent four hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds on this site during the month, a figure of such a huge magnitude.

Next in the line of popularity was Yahoo along with sites and applications; the figures show 134 million users from US visiting Yahoo-owned sites or launched a Yahoo application. The users have spent three hours, 15 minutes and 55 seconds on Yahoo-owned sites.

Number three on popularity was AOL where users spent 2 hours, 43 minutes and 10 seconds in a month. Google was placed fourth with users devoting 2 hours, 31 minutes and 8 seconds. Microsoft turned out to be number fifth with time 2 hours, 12 minutes and 20 seconds. These all figures are provided by Nielson,

Nielsen in its report stated that in terms of time spent on the site, there is a rise of 700% during the period from April 2008 to April 2009. Facebook is not the only site to observe rise in time spending on website. Though Twitter is fifth in line of most popular social networking site, the users spending time on twitter has increased by 3,712 % in the same time period.

According to iStrategyLabs’ report issued it has been found that the explosive growth in users of Facebook is not because of college going crowd; this age group is more liable to use social networking site. The users much older than college going children are part of this revolutionary rise of Facebook.

Confirming the reports iStrategyLabs in its response showed that college and high school users in fact declined in last six months in Facebook but the site has become popular with people more than 55 years of age. The astounding growth in Facebook has seen the rise of 513.7% in previous six months in the age group of more than 55 years of people.
