ShadowCopyView and PreviousFilesRecovery – Two new NirSoft’s tools to recover lost files

ShadowCopyView

NirSoft has recently launched free tools namely ShadowCopyView and PreviousFilesRecovery that could help Windows to browse through shadow copies and get the files restored whichever and whenever is needed. ShadowCopyView does list all the copies of the files on the PC, the snapshots of hard drive that is created by Windows Vista and more. You can even browse through older versions of the file and the folder that contains these snapshots and get the files restored on the hard drive. Windows does allow you to do similar to its Previous Versions but ShadowCopyView does display more copies of shadow and it even allows copying of files when the user account is switched on.

PreviousFileRecovery is a program which is simpler and you could search through shadow copies of files which is not available on the hard drive. Suppose you have deleted some of the jpgs or docx files couple of days back and you are not sure the names of the files, then PreviousFileRecovery could provide a much more simpler method to locate the file that are important and necessary.

The program works like any other search tool by initially forming a folder, then a sub folder and a file mask such as *.docx, pic*, jpg etc and PreviousFileRecovery that finds for the right matches. You can then choose anything that you like to restore and then immediately it will be restored within few seconds of time.

It is not to be noted that both the programs will only help if the service for Windows Shadow Copy is enabled. This will not be possible if the drive in your system is SSD. You could get ShadowCopyView in 32 bit and PreviousFilesRecovery in 32 and 64 bit versions in Windows 64 and other operating systems.
